Vancouver is consistently ranked as one of the premier cities, worldwide, to visit. While you're in Vancouver for NACB 2001, take some time to see what Vancouver has to offer. Getting to Vancouver Local Transportation Transportation to Victoria, British Columbia's capital city, is available from BC Ferries. Downtown to downtown service is provided by Pacific Coach Lines. Points of InterestStanley Park is the jewel of Vancouver. This forest in the center of the city is the home of the Vancouver Aquarium. Within the park are kilometers of secluded walking trails. The seawall path provides ten kilometers of hard surface for walking, biking or rollerblading. Downtown, the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) is famous for its Emily Carr collection and a wide selection of Native and non-native art. Science World, at the east end of False Creek, is home to the Alcan OMNIMAX theatre as well as constantly changing exhibits. Also on False Creek is Granville Island. Former a hive of dirty industry, it has been re-built as a thriving public market and arts center. Transportation around False Creek is provided by False Creek Ferries and Aquabus. To the west, in the Kitsilano area, are the Pacific Space Center and the Vancouver Museum. The Space Center houses the H.R. MacMillan planetarium as well as a range of space and science related exhibits. The Vancouver Museum's showings relate to Vancouver's and Canada's history. As well, the museum often hosts exhibits relating to First Nations history. British Columbia has a long and deep maritime history, which is showcased at the nearby is the Vancouver Maritime Museum. The RCMP patrol vessel St. Roch, famous for it's treks through the Northwest Passage is preserved and displayed here as well. The University of British Columbia is home to several points of interest, including the Museum of Anthropology, Nitobe Gardens, the First Nations House of Learning, the Asian Center and the UBC Botanical Gardens. At the foot of the bluffs overlooking the Georgia Strait is Vancouver's "official" clothing optional beach, Wreck Beach. |
