Groups and Counselling at The Centre

Groups at the Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgendered Center at 1170 Bute St.

Men's and Women’s Coming Out Groups 684-5307

The Centre offers free men's and women’s coming out groups a number of times per year. These are not therapy groups, but rather peer facilitated support groups intended to offer people a safe place to explore and learn about the coming out process. The groups take the form of 8 to 10 structured sessions and are facilitated by two volunteers or practicum students.

The groups are open to anyone who is dealing with coming out issues related to sexual orientation, including those who are "questioning." All groups are transgender inclusive.

Times and dates of groups vary throughout the year. For information about start dates, or to register for a coming out group, call reception at 684-5307.

Do you have solid experience or training in group or peer support work? Interested in facilitating a coming out group?

Counselling

The Centre offers free one-on-one and couple counselling to the community. Counselling is done by practicum students from private counselling colleges, as well as from community colleges and universities. Short bios of all our practicum student counsellors are available through Reception or Prideline. This is to help Centre clients in making an informed choice when seeking counselling services. To sign-up for free counselling, call Reception at 684-5307, or The Prideline at 684-6869

The Centre also keep an up-to-date list of private counsellors who are sensitive to the LGTB community. Each private counsellor provides information on their areas of expertise and their fee scale. We do not endorse any particular private counsellor – it is up to the client to make their own informed choice regarding a counsellor. To obtain names of counsellors on our list, call 684-5307, 684-6869, or drop by 1170 Bute St. to look at the list in person

Bi Vancouver

BiVancouver is less than 2 months old and we already have more than 35 members. We are a social group for bisexual and bicurious men and women. We do not offer support services such as counselling, as our objective is simply to provide opportunities for like-minded people to get together and make new friends. We do invite people to raise any issues they feel are important or relevant to bisexuality and their own lives, at our pub night meet-and-greet events. All age groups and interests are welcomed. We hold weekly or biweekly pub nights at various locations. We put a red rose on our table(s) to identify ourselves to new members, who have not yet met us. It is very informal and relaxed. Please feel free to call us at our contact number below for event details, Hope to see you there!!
